DrupalCon Prague

DrupalCon Prague was amazing. So many people, so many conversations and only 7 days. When I was leaving for the airport, it was raining so hard one could hardly see the road our taxi was driving on. Luckily the weather in Prague was much better. I came a bit early and a had couple of days to slowly go into the conference mode. On Sunday I spent most of the day at the Drupal Association's Board meeting. I got to present on behalf of the two Drupal.org Working Groups. Being not really into public speaking and also not a native English speaker, this was an interesting experience. Then came Monday and 'All the meetings'(tm) started. I spent most of the day in my hotel room, meeting with one Drupal.org Working Group after another. It was absolutely fantastic to finally meet people in person, discuss and collaborate. On Tuesday the Conference started and I made sure to not miss the opening session and the keynote. And then more meetings :) I attended one single session during the whole conference, the one about Drupal.org obviously.

My favourite memory from that Con is one particular evening. For many months we’ve been working on this huge project - upgrading Drupal.org to Drupal 7. And now that we were at the finish line, we wanted to test our work with real users of the site. So on Thursday around 11pm I found myself on the 24th floor of Corinthia Hotel with a bunch of Drupal core developers, all testing our staging site. The “proper” sprint, where people were coding for Drupal, was happening in the sprint room. But we were outside, in the hall, sitting on the floor. There was a guitar, an ukulele, quite music, conversations. There was this unexplainable feeling of community, unity, togetherness. First time I experiences that ‘come for the software, stay for the community’ slogan of ours. This evening I will definitely remember for a long time.
